The name Kanchanaburi may not mean much to many people, but most people would recognize one of the provinces' most famous landmarks, the bridge over the River Kwai, or the infamous "Death Railway", built by Allied prisoners of war in WII, many of whom perished. Kanchanaburi borders Burma and is blessed with spectacular scenery including stunning waterfalls and tranquil national parks. Apart from the railway and related exhibits, there are many attractions in Kanchanaburi, including the Sai Yok Yai and Sai Yok Noi waterfalls. A once in a lifetime opportunity awaits at Wat Pha Luang Ta Bua, popularly known as the Tiger Temple, where Buddhist monks run a rescue center for wild animals and houses many wild tigers that are let out of their cages between the hours of 3:30 and 5pm, and actually allows visitors to touch them, if you are game!
